When was the last time you reviewed your credit report?

A periodic review of your credit report should be a routine part of your financial regimen to give you control of your finances, identify any problems early on and ensure that the information is accurate since your credit score is based on the information in your credit report. Reviewing those reports helps you catch signs of identity theft early and ways to improve your credit score. Federal law requires each of the three nationwide consumer credit reporting companies – Equifax, Experian and TransUnion to give you a free credit report every 12 months if you ask for it.

It is a good idea that you do this 3 times a year. Ask one agency in January, the second in May/ June then the third around Sep/ Oct. You can choose which one you want to do first, second and last.  This way you can also compare the reports from each of the three agencies.

AnnualCreditReport.com is the official site authorized by federal law to get your free annual credit reports.
